The Knight Rider Historians are excited to offer this David Hasselhoff-owned 1985 Pontiac Trans Am promotional car for sale!
When "Knight Rider" premiered, David Hasselhoff traveled the United States to promote the new show by attending World of Wheels, Autorama and other car-related shows. As "Knight Rider's" popularity grew (in no small part due to David's personal appearances), the executives at Pontiac took notice and gifted David and his then-wife, Catherine Hickland, with two brand new, 1983 Pontiac "Recaro Edition" Trans Ams. Those cars were enjoyed by the Hasselhoffs for the next two years. In early 1985, Pontiac then gifted David with another Trans Am, this very same 1985 model that we are offering here. This promotional car was never offered for sale and was given to David when it was brand new. He picked the car up at Peninsula Pontiac in Torrance, CA. David owned this car from 1985 until the summer of 1990, when he sold it. The subsequent owner had this car from that time until 2024!
This Trans Am is completely stock with its numbers matching 5.0 Liter V8 High Output Tuned Port Injection motor, mated to a 4 speed 700-R4 transmission. The motor starts up, idles smoothly & doesn't smoke. The transmission shifts nice and smooth. This car does not leak any fluids. This car lived its entire life in California. As such, the underside is as rust-free as the body of the car. The bottoms of the doors are rust free as well. The exhaust appears to be stock and in excellent condition. The interior is all original, with the charcoal colored Lear Seigler seats in excellent condition. Factory options include: Power Door Locks, Power Windows, Remote Deck Release, Upgraded Acoustical Insulation, Locking T-Tops, Rear Window Defogger, Air Conditioning, Power Mirrors, Cruise Control, Fuel Filler Door Lock, Performance Speaker System with Subwoofer and a Heavy Duty Cooling System.
This car comes with provenance. The car still wears its original "AREUWHO" front and rear California license plates, which can be seen in vintage photos of the car when David owned it. (Incidentally, "AREUWHO" refers to people asking David, "Are you the Knight Rider?"). Additionally, a copy of the transfer slip from 1990 is included, with David's name, address, his production company (Hassel-Free Productions, Inc) and signature on it as the seller. The original owner's manual and warranty book are included, with the latter also inscribed with "Hassel-Free Inc." on the cover. A copy of the Pontiac Historical Services (PHS) invoice is included, as well as a handful of photos of David with this car in the 80s.
The paint on this car is fair. The hood, roof behind the T-tops and trunk lid top have paint issues, most likely from the California sun. The front bumper has some paint chips and there are a couple dents in the passenger side fender and rearview mirror. All the exterior lights work great, headlights go up and down nicely. The rear tail lights are faded with a small crack in one. Please see our video for a better look at the car's defects as well as its attributes: https://youtu.be/RRtD2zGlS5E
